The 6th annual Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (IMM) will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Four events will be offered:  a full 26.2 mile marathon, a 13.1 half marathon, a 5K run and a Kids Fun Run. All events will begin in front of the Indiana State Capitol Building at Washington & Senate Streets.  Already the state’s largest marathon, the IMM is experiencing unprecedented growth.

Start times:
7:55am - Wheelchair athlete   8:00am - Full & Half Marathons   8:20am - 5K   8:30am - Kids Fun Run

In addition, the Monumental Marathon Packet Pick-up & Expo will be held in the Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol, on Thurs. October 31, 4pm - 7pm and Fri. November 1, 11am – 9pm. Exhibitors from a wide range of fitness companies will be represented.

New this year:

  • The Monumental Challenge, “Can You Beat a 91-Year Old?” Mike Fremont, 91, holds multiple single-age world and American running records. He will attempt an age group World Record in the Monumental Half Marathon.
  • A history-making race between two female runners: Alana Hadley, 16 and Coleen De Reuck, 49 will both attempt to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials. They could potentially be the oldest and youngest competitors to compete in the 2016 marathon trials. (See Runner’s World article.)
  • The Monumental Kids Movement, a nine-week running program involving 17 Indianapolis Public Schools and the Challenge Foundation Academy. The program culminates with the students taking part in the Monumental 5k race presented by Apex Benefits. Nearly 1000 kids are currently involved in this exercise and fitness program.

The IMM is a 501(c)3, with a mission to educate Indianapolis youth about the benefits of exercise, proper diet and healthy living. The organization has donated more than $400,000 to support public education over the past five years. On October 29, at the Indiana Pacers home opener, the IMM will present a check for $122,000 to benefit the Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation, College Summit and the Simon Youth Foundation.  (Watch a PSA on 2013 Community Partners)

“Promoting health and wellness benefits our entire community, particularly our youth and local schools,” said Robert J. Brody, president and chief executive officer for Franciscan St. Francis Health. "Truly, the marathon is a test of endurance for athletes and the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon puts the spotlight on our city. We are proud to return as the presenting sponsor of this event.”

The IMM is led by Executive Director Blake Boldon, founder Carlton Ray, President of the IMM Board of Directors Jon Little, and Don Carr, Pres. of Tuxedo Brothers Event Management and IMM Race Director.
